“From teachers to facilitators and moderators of a student-centered learning process”

The course will be structured in 4 modules, each with two online phases. The modules are build on one another and impart competencies in order to create manageable and practical „appetizers“ that offer individual support to the students.

In the participants group there were acquired jointly, step by step, ways to transfer to the new teaching role, useful online-tools  and so on till alternative assessment methods and transferred in the teaching practice. The maximum 15 participants will be  guided through the whole course by an experienced moderator.

The target group is formed by teachers that are already working in the classroom for a number of years. The focus of the course lies on the jointly discovering and testing of new possibilities, tools and methods for individualized teaching and their reflection.

Each of the four modules starts with an approach to the modules subject using multimedia  prepared presentations and activities. In a virtual learning room on the LMS MOODLE there are following a number of online-activities (called „eTivities“), partly in cooperation, partly in self-study to be executed. In the center of the online-phase 2 stands the transfer and testing of the learned in the classroom. The implementation is documented and will be reflected jointly at the end of every module – for example in a synchronous live-online-session.

“From teachers to facilitators and moderators of a student-centered learning process” online training course for teachers, staff

Module 1: teaching and coaching

Teachers should become more and more companions of  self-contained learning students. But in the classroom it seems not to be so easy to change to this required teacher role. High numbers of students in a classroom and very heterogeneous learning groups are confronting teachers with great challenges. They are in the focus of the module1 where the own teacher role will be analyzed and questioned. How can a teacher recognize the different competencies in a classroom, support the learners individually and give a constructive feedback – without break down  by her/his own time-management?

Module 2: reflecting, personalizing, integrating

Focus of module 2 is getting to know and testing the methods of differentiation and individualization. Beside designing of individual supporting learning activities and the optimal design of exercises there will be presented a number of methods for differentiation. There will be shown possibilities to design online-exercises in a different kind. They were tested jointly from a students perspective and reflected.  Last but not least the communication tool „skype“ will be analyzed on its use in the classroom.

Module 4: to support and evaluate performance

From „flash-feedback“ till „two-phase-tests“ there will be focused various methods of alternative performance measurement. Based on the experiences of the times when the participants have been students for themselves there will be discussed the pros and cons of traditional methods of performance measurement. New possibilities of optimization were searched  and reflected. Based on this, the own choosing of performance measurement methods will be implemented partly in online phase 2.

Module 3: to design for myself and to produce jointly

In module 3 the participants will be productive for themselves – after a short presentation and testing of variable (web 2.0)-tools, which are appropriate for differentiated teaching. In the form of „miniworkshops“ there will be experimented, in onlinephase 1, multimedia tools like audacity, fotostory and so on.The experiences and appreciation of each tool will be checked on its classroom-aplicability and summarized in the discussion group. As a next step there is the planning of a teaching sequence using one of the known (web 2.0)-tools on the agenda.
