Liceo Classico Leopardi
Liceo classico (Classical Lyceum) is the oldest secondary school type in Italy. It was established in 1859 and the course of studies lasted 8 years. The study of humanities subjects was prevalent. It was reformed in 1923, during fascism, with the aim of making it a elite school, intended to educate the future country’s ruling class .
Until 1969, this was the only secondary education track that allowed a student access to any kind of Italian university. It is known as a theoretical and humanistic school, one of the few European secondary school types where the study of ancient languages (Latin and ancient Greek) and their literature are compulsory. Almost all public figures in Italy attended the Liceo Classico: politicians, businessmen, lawyers, doctors and affirmed freelance professionals.
Less than 600 unities working to improve learning, to build up the basis for an upcoming “zoon politikon”. That's what the Liceo Classico Leopardi is made for. A prestigious highschool situated in the luxuriant city of San Benedetto del Tronto.
Our role in society is well known: preparing our students in the best way to make them conscious of the society we live in; our goal is to make them integrate in this globalised world and fit them to the EU's motto: “In varietal e Concordia”. Therefore we started up many projects aimed at strengthening our students’ main instrument in this society: thinking.
