Fire dragon

We are happy to share with you one of our STEM experiments.

Fire dragon

Substances and uses:

- Sand

- Sanitary alcohol

- Sodium bicarbonate

- Sugar

- Mortar and pestle

- Spatula

- Metal tray

- Matches

Explanation of the phenomenon:

When the spirit is ignited, heat is released upon which sodium bicarbonate decomposes by releasing carbon dioxide. In addition, the sugar is heated, but it cannot burn because of the formed carbon dioxide, so much of the sugar is carbonized precisely because of the deficiency of oxygen. The carbon produced during the carbonation process is swollen by the resulting carbon dioxide. Thus, the so-called "fire dragon" is generated.

Teachers' meeting and debate over the use of TIC

On 5th July 219, Rui Baltazar, the Portuguese coordinator of our project presented at TIC@Portugal'19 - http://wordpress.educom.pt/TIC-Portugal-19/programa/programa-monte-de-caparica/ the STEM for ALL Project, in the presentation “AEEN: Uma casa com muitos destinos (ERASMUS+)” .

This was a national event, about ICT, that occurs in simultaneous in 9 Portuguese cities.
