Training of Youth Workers
As part of the Erasmus+ project Youth Leading Green Energy Transition (YLGET), youth workers from Bulgaria, Türkiye and Romania gathered in Burgas, Bulgaria, for a 5-day interactive training hosted by International Youth and Cultural Centre – Burgas. The training aimed to build capacity in green education, sustainability leadership, and youth engagement through non-formal methods.
Day 1 – Me and the Team as a Resource (June 30)
The training began with warm welcomes and team-building activities. Participants explored their roles as youth workers and how each brings unique value to a shared learning space. Sessions focused on inclusive education, intercultural competence, and the role of youth in the green transition. In the afternoon, participants visited St. Anastasia Island, combining environmental education with cultural heritage and experiential learning.
Day 2 – Youth and the Local Community (July 1)
The day focused on the sustainable management of local resources and how youth can act as changemakers in their own communities. Through team workshops, participants mapped out green initiatives and brainstormed ways to involve young people in local solutions. In the afternoon, a field visit to an anaerobic installation illustrated real-life applications of circular economy principles.
Day 3 – Youth Meets ESG (July 2)
Participants explored ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) principles and how they connect to youth work. Through collaborative activities, they discussed how to translate ESG values into youth projects. The afternoon included a city exploration walk in Burgas, where participants observed local green infrastructure and community-led sustainability initiatives.
Day 4 – Renewable Energy in Action
(July 3)
The day kicked off with a role-play simulation of a city council debate on transitioning from coal to renewable energy—an engaging way to understand energy policy, community dialogue, and youth advocacy. Later, participants watched the short film “How Water Makes Climate”, sparking discussion on natural systems and climate interdependence. The day concluded with a World Café session with the local community at Chengene Skele, exchanging ideas for a greener future.
Day 5 – Ocean Literacy & Reflection (July 4)
The final day centered around ocean literacy and the importance of understanding marine ecosystems in the context of sustainability. The “Rucksack Activity” allowed participants to reflect on what they’ve learned and what they’ll take forward in their work. The training concluded with a Youthpass certificate ceremony, celebrating each participant’s journey and commitment to leading green change.
