This Project Meeting of ETWINET was an event that brought together representative participants from all partner institutions involved in this strategic partnership. It was hosted by Scuola secondaria di primo grado “Giuseppe Mazzini”- Marsala Italy, from 15 to 19.05.2017.

Preparations for the Students’ Exchange held in Italy, part of the ETWINET, Erasmus+ project took place in March and April 2017: the Italian school made all the arrangements for this meeting, such as booking the hotel, finding host families for students, providing information on how to arrive to the school, the meeting agenda. Participant institutions made travel arrangements: booking the flights, buying the insurance, and preparing all the necessary information for the meeting.

Day 1: 15th of May

The Students’ exchange held in Italy took place during five days, with Day One in Mazara del Vallo. Considering the 15th of May is feast of Region Sicily ad the schools are closed, SMS Mazzini organized a study visit in Mazara del Vallo (23km away from Marsala), in order to discover the city, to introduce Sicily and to enjoy a wonderful day in an ancient “baglio”, matching new experiences, traditions, costumes and cultures. Students visited Mazara del Vallo during the morning, guided by a History Teacher and Italian students. They have learnt about the past of some monuments and other attractions this old Sicilian town has, such as the Norman Cathedral in Piazza della Repubblica, San Nicolò Regale, a church in a traditional Arab-Norman architectural style, the Dancing Satyr, by the Greek sculptor Praxiteles and exhibited as the main attraction at the museum inside Sant’Egidio’s church. Just a few miles away from Mazara del Vallo in Sicilian Baglio, students stayed from 2 pm to 6 pm and they enjoyed a good Sicilian lunch, plays, songs, attractions and scientific experiments with leaves, sun, water, fire and using microscopes.

Day 2: 16th of May

The Meeting started with the official opening of the meeting focusing on discussing the objectives of the project and the benefits of implementing such projects at the Town hall with the Mayor of Marsala and some other local authority. The next activity planned was the exhibition of each group in local and folk songs: students and teachers had the opportunity to show their own performances, dancing and singing. All teams were invited to sing the song “WE WISH WE COULD FLY”, written by Italian team in occasion of this meeting. At the end of the manifestation there has been the presentation of the school and traditional sweets were offered as welcome feast. After the break we went to the school, here the coordinator and the school’s headmistress have welcomed the guests, then each school had to prepare a stand with brochures, leaflets, some traditional cookies and other local food, flag etc. After that each school has presented its school, town and country and all participants were invited to taste local food. The students were divided into two groups, the first mixed group went to Aula 3.0 in order to start the first lesson of Short Scratch Story –SSS ETWINET Scratch games, and the second one went to the music laboratory in order to start the first lesson of -"SING FOR EuropeTWINET”. After two hours the two groups changed their own classes. The day ended with a city tour in Marsala.

Day 3: 17th of May

A study visit was organized in the nearby region. The first stop was in Segesta, an ancient city founded by the Elymians and the second stop was in Erice, a town rich in history and legend. It was a great opportunity for students to learn about mythological legends, ancient Italian history and practice their English skills.

Day 4: 18th of May

This day was also spent in school, where students and teachers have worked hard to complete the activities set in the programme. Meanwhile, the participant teachers gathered into another room and started discussing around some issues regarding the project. A12-Short Scratch Story –SSS ETWINET. After learning coding at this stage students had meet robotics programmes such as scratch, arduino and python. At project classrooms they had learnt how to code a robotics with scratch program and they did writing an original game with scratch program and how to embed it on both twinpsace and www.ETWINET.weebly.com. They had also shared their work on EDMODO virtual classroom; In Italy students had decided the best layout and design of the ETWINETbook and students edited offline version of the book. Students had shared their best short scratch story games. A13-"SING FOR EuropeTWINET": Pupils had learnt and rehearsed local folklore songs in music classes. For this activity they had to learn the "Flipped Classrooms "approaches.

Day 5: 19th of May

This day was shorter, it included a visit to the City Hall and the brief evaluation of the meeting. After that all participants have received the Europasses and certificates of attendance and have started their journey back home.
